FILLES À PAPA
Mixing such different themes like feminine and grunge can be quite a challenge one that, if done in the wrong way, can end up looking like children’s clothing. European label Fillis a Papa have blended both genres together to create their latest collection and the girls behind the label definitely deserve a lot of praise.

Carol and Sarah, sisters from Belgium, founded Filles a Papa on the premise of creating a clothing brand that is instinctive, unpredictable and honest. The girls have collaborated on each collection and each one has been better than the last. As we enter a not-so-chilly Autumn season, the northern hemisphere is blossoming into Spring and Filles a Papa’s new SS14 collection is rebellious, using light colours and pale denim to express a harder side to Spring.

With influences stemming from scholarly environments and the grunge era, Filles a Papa’s have brought together two opposite sides of the young adult spectrum. Using pale green and pinks with plaid patterns and baseball tees, the collection shows signs of a sporadic source of inspiration, including anything from Rock and Roll icons to the ageless European landscape:

"Their collections are a message of freedom and independence, worn with aplomb and fitting bodies closely. Debbie Harry's cheekiness and Kim Gordon's ageless glamor come to mind.”

The SS14 collection nods slightly in sportswear’s direction, with cropped tracksuit tops and uniquely patterned caps. They used a number of different fabrics to create each item of clothing giving the new collection a variety that as Carol and Sarah say, make the collection more “playful” and “liberated”. Filles A Papa have created a wonderful SS14 collection, featuring a series of casual pieces as well as select formalwear that express the vigorousness of the women who wear their designs and the season that it shall be released in.
