Womenswear designer Saara Lepokorpi combines tactile versatility with seasonal congruence in her garments, creating both intelligent and viscerally engaging clothing.

Lepokorpi takes a hands-on approach to her garment construction, allowing so much of herself to seep into her design and production. The clothing is intricate and delicate yet filled with hard, angular aspects, which creates perceivable compositions of femininity and masculinity.

The Helsinki based designer’s clothing is all about contradictions, which are prevalent throughout her SS13 collection. The discernable themes of soft fluidity and angular, oblique static, defined Lepokorpi’s SS13 garments, found in the large free-flowing threads attached to the garments, juxtaposing the otherwise unmoving garments.

Angular silhouettes and hard shapes were pared back with large chunks of colourful threads attached to the garments, giving the wearer movement and fluidity.

Lepokorpi provides women with a balance between tactile intelligence, and visceral expression expertly constructed in her clothing.
